Formula 2 tests have ended in Barcelona
The Formula 2 pre-season tests have ended in Barcelona, Spain. On the final day, Sami Megetunif showed the best time, completing a lap in 1:24.363 seconds in the afternoon session.
In the morning, some sections of the track were wet after the overnight rain, so the riders started working on rain tires. Pretty quickly, the first red flags appeared due to the stop of Kusha Maini in the third corner. After the resumption, the session did not last long – Sami Megetunif crashed out in the ninth corner.
As the track dried up, the riders gradually increased their pace, and Victor Martin showed the best time in the morning session with 20 minutes to go – 1:24.673 seconds. Red flags appeared on the track twice more – Sebastian Montoya spun around in the first corner, and Christian Mansell reached the barrier in the third corner. The rider was not injured and left the car on his own.
Roman Stanek drove the maximum distance in the morning – 53 laps.
The afternoon session started with a series of fast laps. Arvid Lindblad set the benchmark for the others – 1:25.427 seconds, but soon his result surpassed Megetunif – 1:24.363 seconds. Shortly after, red flags appeared on the track due to Max Esterson's U-turn in turn nine.
When the green flags appeared on the track, everyone went to work on long runs, simulating the race. Two hours before the end, the session was stopped again – this time John Bennett flew to the barrier at the penultimate corner.
The tests were interrupted by red flags twice more – Oliver Goethe and Sami Megetunif took turns getting stuck in the gravel at turn five.
Gabriele Mini drove the longest distance – 59 laps.
The next time the drivers will return to driving Formula 2 cars is at the first stage of the season in Melbourne on March 14-16.
