Lando Norris: The gap is smaller than yesterday.
McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri qualified in the second row in Montreal, finishing only behind their rivals from Mercedes. The reigning world champion is pleased that he managed to reduce the gap compared to Friday.
Lando Norris (3rd): "It's hard to say if we could have achieved more. I feel like we did a good job today. But I suppose many can say that.
It's difficult to get everything perfect on the Canadian track, but I think we did quite well. It's clear that the guys starting ahead are a bit faster, so it's great that the gap is smaller than yesterday.
It was fun in the sprint today. We'll see what happens tomorrow, but the forecast promises that the weather will change, so we'll see. But I have a good starting position – we are where we should be."
Oscar Piastri (4th): "I agree that we are a bit closer, but I don't think we have the same pace as Mercedes. The pace they showed in the sprint before they started battling each other was impressive. As I said, we are closer, but not enough to achieve more.
Let's see what the weather will be like during the race. I assume it will open up additional opportunities for us.
We start well, but the stretch to the first corner on this track is very short, so there aren't many opportunities to gain positions. We'll see how it all goes and act accordingly."
