Kolapinto: Our efforts are starting to bear fruit.
With different moods, Alpine drivers commented on the results of the qualifying session for the Canadian Grand Prix. Franco Colapinto is pleased to have reached the final for the second time in a row, while Pierre Gasly, who showed the fourteenth fastest time, mentioned that he and the team are still struggling to understand why his car lacks pace.
Franco Colapinto (10th): "A good day and an overall confidently conducted Saturday with many positive moments in both the sprint and the qualifying. I am satisfied and proud of the work done together with the team. I feel that our efforts are starting to bear fruit in the form of more stable results.
In the sprint, I was close to scoring points – I finished ninth after starting from thirteenth position. The pace was higher than on Friday, and I could fight with the surrounding cars. I was catching up to Arvid Lindblad in the battle for eighth place, but I fell just short. Of course, I was a bit disappointed that points were so close.
In qualifying, I found myself next to Arvid again – today the Racing Bulls were very fast, so tenth place is probably the maximum we could hope for. I have a good starting position, and considering the pace shown in the sprint, I am confident that we can achieve a good result if the weather is stable.
The forecast promises rain, which adds uncertainty for everyone. We will try to do everything we can and react to the situation during the race."
Pierre Gasly (14th): "Fourteenth place is not the result we expected. Like in Miami, I didn't feel comfortable in the car, and we as a team need to work together to understand why that is.
Before the sprint, we decided to adjust the settings to experiment with some ideas and understand why the car lacks pace. Expectations were much higher since the car has speed, as Franco showed by reaching the final.
On Sunday, we will be watching the sky, as the forecast promises rain. Last week in Magny-Cours, I worked with wet tires, so I can say that everyone will have a tough time in case of a wet race. If it rains, the day will be interesting. We'll see what our results will be in that case."
