Max Verstappen: I don't know what's happening
Max Verstappen showed the sixth fastest time in the qualifying session for the Canadian Grand Prix, falling over three-tenths of a second behind pole sitter George Russell. After the session, the Red Bull Racing driver was short and struggled to find words to describe the car's behavior.
Isaac Hajar set the best time in the second session but ended up seventh in the final and was very upset that he couldn't perform better.
Max Verstappen (6th): "The honest answer is I don't know what's going on. Everything is very confusing, and the changes we made to the setup didn't work for me either. It was a very challenging session – everything is very confusing. I hardly have any words.
If the race turns out to be wet, we might face chaos. We'll see; I haven't thought much about it. As I said, everything is very confusing."
Isaac Hajar (7th): "I'm very disappointed. Since the Miami race, I haven't been able to deliver a result in the final qualifying; I'm not focused enough on the final laps and I'm making mistakes. I'm attacking too hard and because of that, I'm losing time on the lap. It's a shame because the car handles excellently on this track, so I'm very upset.
Such instability is caused by a combination of several factors. Our car is not the easiest to drive; it's very sensitive, so I have to drive on the edge. Also, we've only raced twice in the last eight weeks, so it's hard to maintain maximum sharpness and concentration.
Yes, sometimes you need to switch off your brain and think less, and that's not really my strong suit. I like to think and keep everything under control, but today that didn't help at all."
