Valtteri Bottas: I ruined the attempt because of my mistake
Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas recorded the twentieth and twenty-second times in the qualifying session for the Canadian Grand Prix. Both Cadillac drivers acknowledged that they were hoping for a better result.
Sergio Perez (20th): "The sprint was incredible – the team achieved a truly top-notch result. The decision to start on Soft was excellent. We made a mistake in Miami, but here we chose the right tires, made the right decisions, and defended well. It's a shame I received a penalty, but other than that, it was a great performance. I held off a lot of cars and I'm pleased with how the sprint went.
The qualifying was more challenging, and when everyone showed their pace, it became clear where we stood. We couldn't extract the maximum from the session, and the change in settings led to handling issues with the car, so it was difficult to put together a good lap.
The race will be interesting – we will try to take advantage of any opportunity that may arise."
Valtteri Bottas (22nd): "Not the best qualifying. I was hoping for more, but I locked up the wheels going into the first corner – my mistake that ruined the attempt. Due to the cloud cover and drop in temperature, it was harder to get the tires into the working range. It's hard to say how much better I could have gone, but it's clear that it could have been better.
We've been experimenting with settings all weekend, so there's a lot of work going on in the pits. The sprint was a sort of test for us to find the right settings for qualifying. It didn't work out, but we'll try again in the race."
