Bottas confirms that he will remain with Cadillac through 2027.
Valtteri Bottas has once more sought to quell speculation regarding his future with Cadillac, asserting that he will still be part of the Formula 1 grid in 2027. The Finnish driver has faced increasing scrutiny as his teammate Sergio Perez continues to outperform him, while rumors persist about the possibility of IndyCar talent Colton Herta, backed by Cadillac, replacing one of them next year in preparation for a future race seat in F2 this season. In an interview with Finland’s Ilta Sanomat, the 36-year-old was staunch in his response.
"As long as I am aware of my situation and maintain constant communication with the team, people are free to say whatever they like," Bottas stated. "It won't alter my life."
When asked specifically about the upcoming season, Bottas left no room for ambiguity. "I understand what my contract entails, and the team is fully behind me. I will absolutely be here next year as well."
Cadillac's inaugural season has proven more challenging than anticipated, with the team currently being the sole one in the pit lane without any points. Bottas acknowledged that the issues the team faces extend beyond mere bad luck. "There hasn’t really been a race without at least one problem," he remarked. "We need to enhance the quality and assembly. Sometimes, the assembly of the car has been unnecessarily rushed."
The former Mercedes driver also declined to draw direct comparisons with Perez, who has generally appeared to be the stronger of the two Cadillac drivers to this point. "At this moment, there is no value in comparing," Bottas mentioned. "Given the circumstances and all the issues, it is pointless."
Bottas remains optimistic that Cadillac's performance will improve markedly as the season advances. "I am confident that in two months, our car will be significantly faster," he asserted. "I have physically seen everything that is being planned."
