Provost asserts that Renault will remain in F1 "for a long time."

Renault CEO Francois Provost has sought to reassure Formula 1 about the car manufacturer's long-term dedication to the sport amid persistent uncertainty regarding the team's ownership structure. The Enstone-based team has been the focus of speculation in recent weeks and months, particularly after failed negotiations with Mercedes over Otro Capital’s 24 percent stake, and Renault reportedly showing reluctance to collaborate again with former Red Bull leader Christian Horner. Additionally, Chinese automotive giant BYD has been mentioned in connection with a potential Formula 1 venture.

However, in an interview with RTBF, Provost emphasized that Renault views Formula 1 as an essential part of its future. "We’re going to be in F1 for a long time," he stated. "F1 is the most popular sport globally, with 800 million to 1 billion fans."

Provost, who took over from Luca de Meo at Renault, noted that Alpine is starting to recover after finishing last in the constructors’ championship in 2025. "When I came on board, I asked the team to stabilize, and things are gradually falling into place," he said. "I can see the new dynamic."

He also expressed support for Alpine’s current driver lineup, with Pierre Gasly contracted until 2028 and Franco Colapinto increasingly seen as a future asset to the team. "Pierre Gasly is an experienced driver and has a contract until 2028, while Franco Colapinto is advancing very well," Provost remarked.

The Frenchman also commended executive advisor Flavio Briatore, who continues to play a pivotal role in Alpine’s rebuilding efforts. "I have a great rapport with him," said Provost. "I’m grateful for his help during our toughest moments two years ago. He turned everything around. Everything is running smoothly now."

Provost also welcomed Alpine’s title sponsorship deal with Gucci for 2027 and beyond, saying, "This is fantastic news. It’s unprecedented for a major luxury brand to become the main sponsor of an F1 team."

After Renault concluded its engine program to join Mercedes as a customer team for 2026, Provost did not shy away from prioritizing results over emotional ties. "Renault has been part of the legend for over 40 years in F1," he mentioned. "But ultimately, I expect performance, and my goal is to win."
