Marko: Unlikely to defeat McLaren in Barcelona.

"I’m unsure how we will address that issue."

A podium finish seems to be the best hope for Max Verstappen this Sunday, acknowledges Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko. With the new clampdown on front wing flexibility set to take effect in Barcelona, the team had anticipated a performance similar to Imola this weekend. "I never really expected much," Verstappen, who is third in the championship standings and third on the grid for the Spanish GP, stated to Viaplay. "Of course, McLaren’s wing deflected quite a bit," he continued, "but that also relates to balance, and there are setup options to address that. When you're as fast as they are, this is just a minor aspect." Marko, 82, expressed some disappointment as well. "The gap to pole position is slightly larger than we anticipated," the Austrian remarked. "However, we’re only a tenth of a second behind (Lando) Norris. For the race, we may not be overly optimistic about winning, but achieving a podium finish should be feasible." Marko pointed out that the ongoing issue is a loss of tire grip as temperatures rise. "I don’t know how we’re going to solve that," he admitted.
