WEC: Ford Racing decided to rely on its own resources

The Ford Racing team in the Hypercar category of the World Endurance Championship will operate entirely independently. The team will be led by Dan Sayers, and it will have two bases located in the United States and the United Kingdom. However, the development and construction of the chassis will in any case be entrusted to the French company ORECA.

"Our Hypercar program will be executed by Ford Racing, which is in line with our core values," Racer quotes Mark Rushbrook, director of Ford Performance Motorsport, as saying. "It will also allow us to more effectively apply advanced technologies in the production of road cars.

Unlike the traditional model followed by many manufacturers and one we have often used in the past, Ford Racing will independently control every aspect of our endurance racing project, which is led by Dan Sayers, the manager of this program.

We are not looking for partners who can run this program for us — we are relying on the strength of Ford Racing. In this way we can build up the expert knowledge and experience that will form the foundation for future success…"

For previous endurance racing projects Ford Racing brought in other teams — in particular the Canadian Multimatic Motorsports and Chip Ganassi Racing.

Now Ford is preparing to return to the top WEC category, planned for 2027, and the decision to rely solely on in-house resources means that successfully implementing the new program will require creating a whole staff of high-level specialists — engineers, designers, technicians, mechanics and representatives of other racing professions.

"Every vacancy will have to be filled, and that is a serious task, because we are forming a team culture that reflects what Ford Racing has developed in its passionate drive to be the best. On a global scale, in addition to our bases in the U.S., we have Red Bull Ford Powertrains and the British base of our Hypercar team at our disposal.

Also our partner responsible for chassis development is the French company ORECA, which has accumulated decades of winning experience, and its specialists will provide ongoing support to Ford Racing, including at race tracks…"
