Hadjar amazed by Verstappen's steering responsiveness.
Isack Hadjar states he didn't experience the steering issue that affected Max Verstappen significantly at the beginning of 2026. Red Bull Racing rolled out an updated steering-column system in Miami after Verstappen consistently voiced concerns about a lack of front-end feedback during the initial races in Australia, China, and Japan. This upgrade seemed to revitalize the RB22, allowing Verstappen to quickly re-enter contention. However, Hadjar had a challenging weekend in Miami, crashing during the race after struggling with speed, which fueled speculation that the recent updates were more beneficial for Verstappen than for his teammate. The French driver has now disclosed that he never utilized the revised steering setup at all. "No, I didn’t have the same problem," Hadjar acknowledged in Montreal. "We didn’t use the same new steering column for Miami." The 21-year-old expressed that this situation only heightened his respect for Verstappen’s exceptional technical acumen. "Honestly, I didn’t feel what he felt," Hadjar remarked. "So yes, that demonstrates how sensitive he is to such matters and how well he understands his own preferences." "That’s very impressive." Hadjar was particularly disappointed because he felt that scoring points was achievable before his crash in Miami. "It was evident that if I didn’t make any mistakes, points were attainable," he reflected. "I was really eager to give my all for that race." "I was unable to do so due to my mistake, which left me very upset." Hadjar admitted that both he and the team need to improve. "Both the team and I have to perform better than last weekend, as we were lacking in pace," Hadjar stated. "If we can enhance that, I simply want to compete alongside the other drivers." Nonetheless, Hadjar commended Red Bull’s recent advancements despite a tough start to the season. "At the start of the year, it was clear that some teams had begun their projects earlier than we had," he explained. "However, the upgrade definitely surprised me and many others in the paddock. I believe that was truly impressive on our part." "But we are anticipating even more in the future."
