Fifth consecutive race without points for Audi
The Monaco Grand Prix became the fifth consecutive race in which the Audi team did not earn points. Nico Hülkenberg finished in the top ten, but after a ten-second penalty was added to his time, he dropped to fourteenth place. His teammate Gabriel Bortoleto finished twelfth after starting from the pit lane.
Gabriel Bortoleto (12th): "My race effectively ended before it even started. I had a problem during the start practice – the car just shut down. The team worked hard to get me into the race, but I started from the pit lane, and in Monaco, that makes life very difficult. Once you find yourself in traffic, the opportunities to gain positions are extremely limited, and for most of the race, I couldn't do anything.
Such a result is disappointing and adds to the frustration from Saturday's qualifying. On the positive side, we can note the good pace, and the car was effective throughout the weekend. I believe that based on such a weekend, the team deserved more. It's good that both cars finished the race, and the team did a great job overnight to fix the damage sustained in qualifying and prepare my car for the race.
We will draw conclusions, but I am inspired by what the team has already achieved."
Nico Hülkenberg (14th): "A disappointing end to the weekend. For a while, it seemed like we could earn points, but the penalty nullified all efforts.
After the restart, with only a few laps to go, the battle was intense. I had to react to avoid contact with the car ahead. I moved to the inside and locked up the wheels – I had nowhere else to go. Carlos was on the outside, and there was contact between our cars.
It's a shame because the pace we showed this weekend was promising. Unfortunately, we couldn't convert it into earned points."
