After much anticipation, the Ram Power Wagon is now available with a Cummins diesel engine. This heavy-duty adventure pickup has been a cherished choice for off-road enthusiasts, but until now, the only engine option was the 6.4-liter Hemi V8 gasoline engine. We were aware that changes were coming for the 2027 model year, but the exact pricing remained uncertain until Ram revealed the starting price on Monday morning. If you're eager to purchase one, be ready to spend at least $89,560.
This price includes the destination charge, but it isn't the highest you can go for a Power Wagon with the 6.7-liter Cummins engine. The diesel engine itself is an additional $12,995 option, and opting for the Level 2 equipment group will set you back another $8,545. Don’t be surprised if you find diesel Power Wagons at dealerships priced at $100,000 or more.
Undoubtedly, it’s one of the most formidable trucks available, now boasting more capability than ever. Ram claims that the three-quarter-ton Power Wagon can now tow up to 19,630 pounds with the diesel engine, while the maximum payload capacity is rated at 2,930 pounds. For context, the Cummins diesel engine produces 430 horsepower and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. This is quite impressive for a vehicle equipped with locking differentials at both the front and rear, a push-button sway bar disconnect, and factory-installed 34-inch tires.

Ram has not only integrated the Cummins into the existing Power Wagon; it has also added extra skid plating beneath the truck to safeguard the diesel exhaust fluid tank, the fuel tank, and the transfer case. With a fuel capacity of 31 gallons, it should be capable of traveling over 600 miles between refuels.
I expect we’ll see more diesel Power Wagons on off-road trails compared to gasoline versions in the future, despite the higher price tag. Modern pickup owners often seek the most extreme variant of their vehicle, and it can be hard to resist the allure of the Cummins if you can afford it. Just keep in mind that if you choose the optional engine instead of the gasoline V8, you forfeit the factory winch. These trucks can be challenging enough to keep cool without a large spool obstructing the radiator.
