      I appreciate a Ford Mustang, but I have a special fondness for the Ford Mustang convertible. Naturally, not every car is improved by having a removable roof—indeed, not every Mustang is better off without one. However, when it comes to the high-performance Dark Horse SC, which should zip along with ease, it absolutely requires a convertible version. Thankfully, that’s on the way.

      This car doesn’t differ much aside from the convertible roof, and that’s a positive aspect. It features Ford’s supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that produces 795 horsepower and 660 lb-ft of torque. Although a manual transmission would be fantastic, it doesn’t come with one; instead, the only transmission option is a seven-speed Tremec dual-clutch automatic.

      The Dark Horse SC stands out among Mustangs because it boasts significantly more power than a standard GT or Dark Horse, yet it’s still not as extreme as a GTD. That’s why I believe it merits a convertible version. Ford seems to agree, since the regular Dark Horse and GTD are available only as coupe models. Buyers of those models prioritize speed first and foremost, while Dark Horse SC drivers understand that their six-figure vehicle is meant for leisurely drives.

      Naturally, the Dark Horse SC Convertible will not come with the coupe's track package. Why add a wing that provides 620 pounds of rear downforce when the airflow becomes erratic behind the windshield? Plus, taking a car with nearly 800 hp, no roof, and no roll cage onto a track sounds like a recipe for trouble.

      The Dark Horse SC Convertible is meant for scenic routes like the Pacific Coast Highway, Route 66, or the Blue Ridge Parkway. You get the idea. Let’s just hope the same can't be said about the curb outside your neighborhood Starbucks. (I apologize, I know that joke is getting stale.)
