Commenting on the race at Interlagos live on Austrian broadcaster ORF, former Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost made an inappropriate remark for which the channel had to apologize. When, after Gabriel Bortoleto’s crash at the start of the race, his family — distressed by the incident in the pits — was shown, Tost said: “Bortoleto is still learning. Mothers shouldn’t look so silly. It’s perfectly normal.” The phrase instantly spread across social media, and although many considered it ironic, the broadcaster issued an official apology. “During the joint commentary of the Brazilian Grand Prix, after the start of the race, when Gabriel Bortoleto’s mother and family were shown live after the crash, unfortunately an unacceptable remark was made, for which we want to offer our sincere apologies. The expression and choice of words were completely inappropriate; ORF Sport will take appropriate measures to ensure this does not happen again,” the statement said.
Comentando la carrera en Interlagos en directo para la cadena austriaca ORF, el exjefe de Toro Rosso Franz Tost hizo una declaración inapropiada por la que la cadena tuvo que disculparse.
Cuando, tras el accidente de Gabriel Bortoleto en la salida de la carrera, mostraron a su familia angustiada por el incidente en los boxes, Tost dijo: «Bortoleto solo está aprendiendo. Las madres no deberían parecer tan tontas. Eso está perfectamente bien».
La frase se difundió de inmediato por las redes sociales y, aunque muchos la consideraron irónica, la cadena ofreció disculpas oficiales.
«Durante la retransmisión conjunta del Gran Premio de Brasil, después de la salida de la carrera, cuando la madre y la familia de Gabriel Bortoleto fueron mostradas en directo tras el accidente, lamentablemente se pronunció una declaración inaceptable por la que queremos presentar nuestras sinceras disculpas.
Las expresiones y la elección de palabras fueron totalmente inapropiadas; ORF Sport tomará las medidas pertinentes para que algo así no vuelva a ocurrir», dice el comunicado.
