Lewis Hamilton: I won't end my career by winning the title.
Lewis Hamilton gave an interview to the Italian La Gazzetta dello Sport, in which he assured that he would not end his career if he won his eighth title.
Q: Does Ferrari have the right mindset to try to win the title?Lewis Hamilton: Yes, without a doubt. In the past, I played for two teams that won titles, and I know what the atmosphere is like in a winning team.
Everyone at Ferrari has a very reasonable approach to business. No one thinks we're perfect. On the contrary, everyone thinks that the team should continue to improve. The team doesn't leave anything to chance.
Q: What are your realistic expectations for the upcoming season?Lewis Hamilton: It's too early to tell what this year will be like. We know that there will be an intense struggle between the leading teams. I'm still adapting to the new approach to work and I want to be fully prepared for the first race. However, we haven't been on the track with other teams yet, so we don't know the level of our rivals.
Question: What is your relationship with your partner Charles Leclair?Lewis Hamilton: We have a great relationship, and I consider him a strong driver. Many years ago in Bahrain, I said that Charles has a bright future ahead of him. He's only 27 years old, but he's very mature for his age. Maybe even more mature than I was at 27. We are working with him to ensure that the team is moving in the right direction.
Q: It's no secret that you want to win the championship title. If the goal is achieved, will you stay in Formula 1 or end your career?Lewis Hamilton: If I'm lucky enough to win another title, which is exactly what we're aiming for, I won't stop after that.
Q: Will the eighth title be a dream come true?Lewis Hamilton: I don't think of it as an eighth title. I think of it as my first title with Ferrari. I strive to make history with this team by trying to succeed with it.
Question: Moving to Maranello is also connected with culture. How are things going with Italian cuisine?Lewis Hamilton: I've always loved Italian cuisine. I first came to Italy at the age of 13, when I was competing in karting. Nico Rosberg and I went out for ice cream every night. And I still remember the incredible lasagna that my first mechanic's mother-in-law made. So many years have passed, and I still remember.
I'm eating quite a lot of pizza now. For example, I ate three last week.
Q: Is learning Italian another way to get comfortable at Ferrari?Lewis Hamilton: I've always dreamed of learning a foreign language. It is more difficult for the British to do this because it is not necessary. However, I want people to know that I am really ready to do anything to integrate into the team.
It's difficult to learn a language, but I like being at the base in Maranello because I can practice every day.
