Vandoorne: It's impossible to create a championship team in a year

Stoffel Vandoorne, Aston Martin F1 reserve driver, believes his team needs time to reach the next, higher level.

On the one hand, Lawrence Stroll, the owner of the team, provided it with the necessary financing, huge amounts of money were invested in large-scale infrastructure upgrades and equipment upgrades, on the other, it is still far from winning.

"The team has a very good team of specialists, but this is Formula 1," Vandoorne said in an interview with RacingNews365. "It's impossible to create a championship team in one year. Look at Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull or McLaren. It took time for all of them to rebuild, restructure, and make the entire system work effectively.

And I think that's exactly the stage we're at right now. We already have excellent specialists, but sometimes all it takes on the way to success is time. We need to gradually figure out how to properly allocate powers, because if people are in certain positions today, this does not mean that these positions are, let's say, optimally distributed.

If you look at McLaren, that's exactly the kind of work they did there. The same specialists have been working in a team for a long time, but there have been no good results for a long time, five or six years, if not longer. And now this team can be considered exemplary, precisely because some personnel changes have been made there and responsibilities have been redistributed.

I think this explains, among other things, why it is so difficult to achieve effective work of the whole team in Formula 1, because it is a very complex mechanism."
