Marko: Aston Martin's offer to Verstappen is 'logical'

According to Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko, it is "only logical" for Aston Martin to pursue Max Verstappen. Recent reports from the UK media indicate that the team, owned by Lawrence Stroll, is attempting to entice Verstappen with a long-term deal potentially amounting to $1 billion, following their successful recruitment of Adrian Newey for 2025 and beyond. Marko, who serves as Verstappen’s mentor and boss, believes there may be some validity to the speculation.

"It’s well known that Newey holds Max in high regard," the 81-year-old Austrian told motorsport-total.com. "Thus, it's quite reasonable for them to extend an offer." Verstappen, 27, has acknowledged having some discussions with Aston Martin, but only to arrange for GT3 cars for his new racing initiative. Recent images showed the Dutch driver testing a Verstappen.com-branded Aston Martin in France.

Marko considers the GT connection as "the carrot" for Verstappen. "With Newey likely sharing his preferences regarding drivers, it makes sense for Aston Martin to attempt to present Max with an offer," he stated. "The official outreach was triggered by Max’s enthusiasm for GT, and since Max is the team owner and frequently drives these GT cars, it’s natural. Evidently, the Aston Martin is viewed as one of the most appealing options based on its foundation. That car is likely to be integrated into Max’s GT framework," Marko added.

However, Marko believes that the reports of a staggering $1 billion offer are likely exaggerated. "I am skeptical about such a high figure, especially considering Aston Martin’s current stock price," he remarked. "It is said that there was a substantial offer, but we cannot confirm if it truly exists."
