The construction of a track for the Race of Champions is underway in Sydney
In Sydney, the construction of a track for the Race of Champions (ROC for short), scheduled for March 7-8, is in full swing at Accor Stadium.
This is the 33rd time this exciting event has taken place, but this is the first time the ROC will be held on Australian soil and in the Southern Hemisphere in general, and the organizers are preparing with all care.
The composition of the participants has been determined, and among these two dozen representatives of different racing disciplines there are real stars of Formula 1, rally, rallycross, rally raids, the American NASCAR championship and the Australian Supercars series.
These days, the asphalt track for the parallel race is being paved at Accor Stadium, with a lap length of exactly 1 kilometer. More than 100 people have been involved in the work, which began last Wednesday, and they work around the clock.
ROC participants will have to face off behind the wheel of six cars of completely different classes.:
These are the four-wheel drive FC2 Rallycross and Supercar Lite Rallycross, the traditional ROC rear-wheel drive KTM X-Bow Comp R, the Polaris RZR Pro R light SUVs, as well as Subaru BRZ tS and Toyota GR86 Cup sports cars.
Training sessions will begin on Thursday, March 6, and all participants will have the opportunity to try all this technique on the go and at least adapt to it a little.
The Race of Champions is supported by the Australian Motorsport Federation, which will provide its stewards, and the experienced Gary Connelly, who has worked as a steward at Formula 1 races more than once, will head the judging panel.
Fredrik Jonsson, President and Co-founder of ROC: "The first Champions Race at Accor Stadium in Sydney is less than a week away, and we are pleased with the preparations for it both on and off the track.
We have an impressive line-up of participants who will compete in the Nations Cup on Friday, and then, on Saturday, will face off in duels that will determine the name of the Champion of Champions.
All this became possible thanks to the help of our partners – some of them have been working with us for some time, others joined ROC for the first time. We are confident that everything is going well, and it is great to see how truly enthusiastic everyone is working to make the first Race of Champions to be held in the Southern Hemisphere the best in the 33-year history of the ROC."
