Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko believes his Alpine counterpart, Flavio Briatore, is serious about removing Jack Doohan from his racing position sooner rather than later.

Rookie Doohan has arrived at his first home race in Australia amid a swirl of negative speculation. The headline in Melbourne's Age newspaper suggests the "harsh reality" is that Franco Colapinto is set to take his place.

In his most recent interview with the specialist site f1-insider.com, Briatore addressed the growing rumors surrounding Doohan and Colapinto.

"Everyone is searching for talent," he stated. "Only then can you achieve the world championship, because the driver makes the difference.

"I'm looking for fast drivers who can win races," the Italian continued. "In the end, the stopwatch is the key - tick, tock, tick, tock. My duty is to find the best.

"But I’m not ruthless," Briatore emphasized.

Alpine team principal Oliver Oakes has done little to temper the speculation, stating that Doohan "should be given a few races before making a judgment."

"I'm calm. Let’s allow Jack to start first," he added.

On the other hand, the notoriously tough Red Bull advisor Marko seems to align with Briatore regarding Doohan, labeling fellow rookie Gabriel Bortoleto as a "B-level driver" and Doohan a "C-level driver."

"I don’t believe he’ll finish the season," the 81-year-old remarked on Servus TV.

Meanwhile, reigning F2 champion Bortoleto arrived in Melbourne only to face Marko’s criticism.

"I heard what he said," the Brazilian, managed by Fernando Alonso, stated at Albert Park. "I think Helmut has introduced a lot of talent to Formula 1, but he also brought in drivers who lacked the necessary talent.

"So sometimes he was right, sometimes he was wrong. But there’s really nothing I can communicate in the media now that will change his opinion. Only the results on the track matter."
