The McLaren Formula 1 Team has today announced a multi-year extension of its successful partnership with Oscar Piastri. The Australian driver will remain with the team long-term.

Oscar joined McLaren in 2023 on a multi-year contract, which was quickly extended later that same year to extend through 2026.

Throughout his impressive motorsport career, Oscar has consistently excelled, rapidly advancing through the junior categories as the FIA Formula 2 and FIA Formula 3 Champion, before securing a Sprint race victory in his debut season with McLaren and reaching the podium in Japan and Qatar.

In 2024, the 23-year-old Australian triumphed in the Hungarian and Azerbaijan Grands Prix, also achieving podium finishes in Monaco, Austria, Belgium, Monza, Singapore, and Qatar, along with a Sprint win in Qatar. He was the sole driver to complete every racing lap of the 2024 season, finishing fourth in the Drivers’ Championship standings in just his second year in Formula 1. These outcomes were crucial in the team's FIA Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship victory.

Today’s announcement, along with the multi-year contract extensions of CEO Zak Brown, Team Principal Andrea Stella, driver Lando Norris, and other senior team members, reinforces McLaren F1 Team's long-term stability as it aims for further World Championships.

Oscar Piastri, Driver, McLaren F1, said:

“I feel great knowing I’m part of McLaren’s long-term vision. The team believed in me when we signed in 2022, and the journey we’ve undertaken over the past two seasons to help elevate McLaren back to the top of the sport has been amazing.

“So many talented and exceptional individuals at MTC have helped me become a Formula 1 race winner early in my career. I’m therefore very proud to continue representing this iconic team for many years ahead.

“I’m eager to compete for the top prizes as a McLaren driver, and after last year’s impressive accomplishments, I feel even more driven to stay at the forefront.”

Zak Brown, CEO, McLaren Racing, remarked:

“It’s fantastic to confirm Oscar’s extension with McLaren. He is not only an exceptionally skilled driver, but his work ethic and cultural fit within the team made extending his contract a straightforward decision.

“We have the best driver lineup on the grid, and in the last two seasons, we’ve witnessed just how much of an asset Oscar is both on and off the track. He played a vital role in enhancing our legacy with the 2024 Constructors’ Championship last season, so we’re all eager to see what we can achieve together in the future as we continue to strive for World Championships.”

Andrea Stella, Team Principal, McLaren F1, stated:

“Extending our partnership with Oscar further symbolizes our belief and trust in him as a driver, as well as reflecting our shared ambition to continue our pursuit of Championships together.

“It has been a pleasure working with Oscar over the last two seasons, and he has continually demonstrated his remarkable talent, determination, and work ethic as a driver, along with his positive impact on our team and culture as an individual.

“Together with Lando, we have everything we need secured for the long term to keep moving forward. I look forward to witnessing Oscar’s growth and development as a driver and am confident that many successes lie ahead for him.”
