Helmut Marko showed no sympathy for Isaac Hajjar
Helmut Marko, Red Bull's motorsport advisor, did not seem to show any sympathy for Isaac Hajjar, the Racing Bulls debutant, who was upset to tears after an accident on the warm-up lap before the start of the Australian Grand Prix.
Even the most experienced racers noted that they had not driven a single lap on a wet track in their new cars, so they would have to figure out how the equipment would behave on rain tires along the way. It is clear that the newcomers had a much more difficult time in this regard, and in the end, only Kimi Antonelli, who performed well and took fourth place, and Oliver Berman, reached the finish line of the race, although the last one was 40 seconds from the winner.
But this dropout began with Hajjar, who lost control of the car and crashed into the barriers before the start. It was obvious that the 20-year-old French racer couldn't hold back his tears, and we've already told you how this story unfolded. Anthony Hamilton, the father of the seven-time world champion, was the first to try to comfort the guy who was grieving over his unfortunate mistake.
But Helmut Marko, who has always been responsible for the youth program at Red Bull, has long been known to be averse to sentiment. So it was this time.
"Isaac Hajjar burst into tears after his accident. It made it a little awkward," was his comment on the Austrian ORF TV channel.
Tellingly, Christian Horner took a slightly different position.
"It was heartbreaking when we saw how worried he was,– said the head of Red Bull Racing. – After all, this is his very first Grand Prix, and I think there were some positive moments that he should pay attention to, because he worked very well in training and had a great qualifying.
We forget that these guys are actually still very young. Of course, Isaac has been through a lot of shock, but I think that when he analyzes this weekend, he will find a lot of positive things. There will be many brighter days for him in the future."
