Todt wishes for F1's return to Russia.
"I hope that peace will be established."
Former FIA president Jean Todt expressed his wish that Russia will be reinstated in the Formula 1 calendar. Following Haas's dismissal of Nikita Mazepin and his Russian sponsorship amidst the onset of the Ukraine crisis in 2022, F1 also decisively removed the Russian GP in Sochi, which was heavily backed by Vladimir Putin. At that time, there were plans to move the race from Sochi to a new track near St Petersburg. With reports of negotiations for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, along with indications that the FIA may soon lift restrictions on Russian drivers, Todt conveyed optimism regarding the future of the Russian GP. "I hope that peace will be established, and Formula 1 will naturally return to Russia," the 79-year-old Frenchman told the Russian news agency Tass. "Russia was a significant race on the calendar," he added. Sochi hosted the Russian GP from 2014 to 2021.
