Fernando Alonso: I hope I'll have better luck in Japan.
Fernando Alonso has clearly had no luck since the beginning of the season, because for various reasons he has already dropped out of the race twice. But the Spanish Aston Martin racer hopes that the Japanese Grand Prix will be more successful for him.
Fernando Alonso: "For me, the races in Australia and China were unsuccessful, I wasn't even classified, because I haven't reached the finish line yet. I hope I'll have better luck on the stage in Japan.
If we talk about our level of competitiveness, the results are extremely tight, and literally one to two tenths separate the last position in the qualification from the results that allow us to go to the final session.
This means that we need to work as perfectly as possible every weekend, and that's exactly the goal we set for ourselves. But it's an interesting challenge! There is no doubt that the AMR25 has a number of advantages, although it is necessary to continue working on some aspects of the design.
I think we were already more competitive in China than in Australia, but overall we remain at about the same level as we were at the end of last season in Abu Dhabi. So far, the picture has not changed much, but at the same time, the intensity of competition has increased.
We have to keep optimizing the car, the settings, we have to work better in terms of tactics – if we want to earn points, everything has to be perfect. These are probably the tasks we will be solving throughout this season.
We are trying to correct those manifestations of instability in the behavior of the car that hindered us last year, and they could manifest themselves not only from track to track, but also on different laps during the race.
At least this year we can trust the car more and experiment more with the settings to achieve the desired results. But I think that the weaknesses of the AMR25 are primarily felt in the slow turns, although this was the case last year."
When Fernando was asked if the presence of a specialist like Adrian Newey, who recently joined Aston Martin, was already felt in the team, the two-time world champion replied: "I wasn't at the team base last week, but I know that Adrian is really motivated and works day after day, trying to understand everything. all the details of all aspects of the team's work and understand how to act in order to make the entire system more efficient.
I think he's mainly working on next year's car, but I have no doubt that he's following the race and taking part in operational meetings at the Silverstone base.
On the one hand, it is impossible not to engage in AMR25 at all, on the other, I am not aware that Adrian has already proposed some ideas for its modernization. But I have no doubt that he will try to improve this chassis as well."
