Honda engine parts from Senna's car to be put up for auction
Honda Racing Corporation (HRC), the racing division of the Japanese auto giant, will put up for auction the parts of the RA100E V10 3.5 engine from the McLaren MP4/5B car, which Ayrton Senna raced in 1990 and won his second title.
The first such auction will be held in August during Monterey Auto Week in Monterey, California. Among other things, collectors of historic racing equipment will be offered crankshafts, pistons and a number of other parts, each of which will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
According to HRC, at the Honda base in Sakura, such an engine was completely disassembled, and it was those Japanese motorists who collaborated with McLaren three and a half decades ago who were involved in the work.
In addition, HRC intends to do the same with other Honda relics, including those related to motorcycle racing and IndyCar.
"We intend to create an effective business based on all this, which will allow fans who love Formula 1, MotoGP and other types of racing to get a part of the Honda racing history dating back to the 50s. So this will not be a oneātime event, but an ever-evolving business," said Koiji Watanabe, President of HRC.
