Verstappen: It was a difficult start to the weekend, but we didn't give up.
Max Verstappen won the Japanese Grand Prix for the fourth time in a row, and after a confident start from pole position, he did not give the McLaren drivers chasing him a single chance.
Max Verstappen (1st): "It was a difficult race, I attacked with all my might, especially on the last set of tires, when I was very actively urged by the McLaren drivers. In general, it was fun, although it was not easy to control tire wear, but I am very happy!
It started off very difficult this weekend, but we didn't give up, we gradually improved the car and by today we have reached the peak of our form. Of course, starting from pole position allowed us to fight for victory, because it's always important to try to achieve the best possible result, and I think we did a great job this weekend.
In the last laps, I was thinking that this is my last race in Japan with a Honda engine, so I have to try not to miss out on the victory so that today goes down in history. I am very proud of what we have achieved together over the years, and this weekend we achieved the perfect result."
Yuki Tsunoda (12th): "I'm happy with the way I ran the race, but if we talk about the result, I was hoping for more. This is my home Grand Prix, and of course I was hoping to at least score points. That's why I'm experiencing difficult emotions right now, because it wasn't an easy race.
But it was during this Grand Prix that I drove the most laps in this car, and I tried to learn from each of them. Of course, closer to the finish line, I was driving much more confidently and really controlled the behavior of the car. If the qualification had been held now, I have no doubt that I would have been able to show a better result.
In general, considering how much time I had to adapt, I'm happy, but still, in my home Grand Prix, I would like to finish in the top ten. Fortunately, I can learn a lot from Max, so I intend to continue working the way I do, and I'm already looking forward to racing in Bahrain."
