Yuki Tsunoda: I turned the steering wheel too much
Yuki Tsunoda clocked sixth in the second practice session of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, but crashed his car in the last minutes of the session, hitting the wall in the last corner. The Red Bull Racing driver took responsibility for the incident and apologized to the team.
His teammate Max Verstappen clocked the third time, losing only to a couple of McLaren drivers.
Max Verstappen (3rd): "Today we tried different things with the car, different ways of working with the settings. I can say that we've figured out a lot, but we're not in the shape we want to be in yet.
I haven't studied the breaks yet, but right now it's important to focus on my own tasks and the feel of the car. It's gotten a little better, but the long series of laps is still hard for us.
It's difficult to make a direct comparison with Bahrain because it has a different track, a different grip level and different settings. But it's obvious that we want to get faster. It is difficult to say what result will be possible in qualifying. McLaren once again stand out from the rest – they are very competitive. As for us, we still have a lot to work on."
Yuki Tsunoda (6th): "I turned the steering wheel too much and hit the wall. The car was damaged and I lost control of it.
I apologize to the team. Our pace looked good, so it's a pity that it ended like this. But I'm confident in the car, and everything was going well before the incident. I ruined a long series of laps for myself, so I have nothing to complain about. It was definitely possible to finish the day better.
The car's speed on a fast lap is also not bad. I ruined my attempt on Soft because I overdid warming up the kit. But otherwise, the speed looks good."
