Sainz: The goal of the race is to earn as many points as possible
In Jeddah, Carlos Sainz had his best qualifying of the season, clocking sixth. His Williams teammate Alex Albon was just seven thousandths short of reaching the final.
Carlos Sainz (6th): "I liked that in qualifying I had the opportunity to attack at the limit. On such a difficult track, confidence in the car really matters.
I'm proud of the pace of our progress – from the very first practice session, I felt more comfortable driving. The goal of the race is to earn as many points as possible. But it will require patience and discipline, and I will also have to choose who to fight with in order to achieve the best possible result. Let's do it!"
Alex Albon (11th): "There were reasons for frustration today, because we should have gone through to the finals calmly, but we didn't succeed. We found ourselves in an unfavorable situation on the track, and we were unable to use the slip stream on the straights.
In addition, the condition of the surface was improving, but we went to the track when no one else did, and its character is somewhat reminiscent of Monza, and here we also need to try to use a slip stream. But we didn't, and it ended up costing us a lot, so it's pretty simple.
I do not know what the logic was when choosing this particular tactic. At the same time, I was happy with the way I drove the lap, and we showed good speed on the straights.
But our car allows us to fight for points, and it's not that difficult to overtake on this track, and tomorrow we will have such opportunities. Although we'll see how things will turn out, because during tomorrow's race there will most likely be severe degradation of the rubber, and in training we didn't do very well with this. "
