McLaren Racing retires from Formula E

Based on the results of a strategic analysis of its racing program, McLaren Racing decided to abandon further participation in Formula E after the end of the current season.

As highlighted in the press release on this decision, participation in the World Electric Car Racing Championship was an important part of the McLaren Racing program, and the British team will continue to compete until the last race of the 2024/2025 season.

"We are confident that this series will remain an integral part of global motorsport diversity," the British team said in a statement. Further, the decision to retire from Formula E will allow McLaren to fully focus on all other areas of its racing program:

"McLaren Racing will be the only team that will compete in Formula 1, IndyCar and the World Endurance Championship starting in 2027."

Zach Brown, McLaren Racing Executive Director: "We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved in Formula E, but the moment has come to explore other opportunities that are more in line with our strategic development direction, including joining the WEC in 2027.

Right now, we are fully focused on preparing our wonderful team for future success, while selecting a new owner for it.

The team has started this year confidently, and we intend to end the season on a high note. I would like to thank our team, Formula E, our partners and fans for their continued support."
