
Alan Jones: Piastri is in no way inferior to Verstappen
Alan Jones won the title in 1980 while driving for Williams, becoming one of only two Australians in Formula 1 history to do so, the first being Jack Brabham, a three–time world champion.
Oscar Piastri has already won three of the five races this season, is leading in the individual standings, and is, of course, considered one of the contenders to win the championship.
"There's no doubt that this is a future world champion," Alan Jones said on Fox Sports. – You can say that he appeared almost unexpectedly, but it turned out that he has all the necessary champion qualities. Like all Australian racers, he performs very well.
Oscar is in no way inferior to Max Verstappen, who attacks as soon as he sees an opportunity. He surpasses many other racers, including trying to intimidate them, but it seems to me that Oscar is characterized by psychological resilience and is not led to such tricks. He just sees how Max acts and pays him back.
Without question, Piastri can become the world champion this year. And although the first person you should get ahead of is your partner, but in my opinion, Lando Norris is still a bit weak. He's a fast rider, there's no doubt about that, but I think his mental preparation leaves a lot to be desired.
Norris himself admits that he has some mental problems, and talks about these problems instead of focusing on the positive aspects. And when the racers start talking such nonsense, you immediately realize that you've already beaten them. I really like Oscar because he is a very resilient young guy, including his mentality.
He is not inclined to express his emotions vividly, he does not dance with joy – he just has a very strong character, and in order to succeed, you need just such qualities.
He is young, but he is already distinguished by genuine maturity, and at the same time Oscar is a very calm guy, it's hard to get mad – unlike his partner. Norris, in my opinion, is rapidly losing his mental balance – I think Oscar will take advantage of this..."
