Alonso: Correcting other people's mistakes is not Newey's business

Fernando Alonso hasn't scored any points this season yet – the car lacks speed, but he's not expecting help from the newly hired Adrian Newey.…

Fernando Alonso: "I think Newey would have preferred to join the team a year ago and start with the 2026 car then. I'm sure he thinks it's too late to work on 2026, so I completely understand his decision to focus entirely on the new car. He didn't design this year's car, he didn't build it, and I don't think it's his job to fix other people's mistakes.

Before going to Miami, I had lunch with Newey at the new base in Silverstone and felt confident that the problems this year would not have a lasting impact on our future. I never doubted that the team would be able to turn the situation around. This year's car has inherited a number of previous problems that we have encountered in the last two seasons and have not been able to solve. But with the new rules and with Adrian, we won't take any of these issues into 2026. We're going to have a full reboot, so I'm not too worried about next season.

Now we are well aware in which areas we are lagging behind the leading teams and in which areas we need to improve. Some of the new people who have joined the team have good references and come from teams competing for the championship – they know what it takes."
