Ralf Schumacher: Lewis could have acted more wisely
Ralf Schumacher, a former Formula 1 racing driver who now works with Sky Deutschland as an expert, criticized Lewis Hamilton for overly emotional comments on the radio during the Miami Grand Prix, believing that this could cause unwanted tension in relations with Ferrari.
Hamilton was really unhappy with the actions of the team, which, as it seemed to him, delayed the decision for too long when he intended to overtake his team-mate, Charles Leclair, because he was driving on fresher tires and wanted to try to catch up with Kimi Antonelli, the Mercedes driver, who occupied the 6th position.
After the finish of the race, Hamilton explained that his remarks were sarcastic and were uttered in the heat of the fight, and in such situations "you will never hear anything nice from a racer."… I didn't swear, I wasn't disrespectful.… At least, it doesn't seem that way to me."
Ralf Schumacher, like many others who watched the race from the sidelines, felt differently.
"I would say Hamilton was wrong," he said while taking part in the Backstage Pit Lane podcast on Sky Deutschland. "It's one thing when you really want to overtake, especially since at that moment he could go faster than his teammate. But then, if I were him, I would not have balked and argued, I would have returned the position and after that I would not have tried to present everything in such a way that those remarks were sarcastic. Instead, I would just apologize.
With riders of his age and experience, such things should not happen at all. He could have acted a little more wisely. I think it would be better for him.
Now the people at Ferrari will know Hamilton better. Naturally, such actions cause tension in the relations within the team. Moreover, the consequences of this are usually felt for a long time, and he himself will have to admit it.
Now there is a need to sort all this out, and it is clear that the team will have a private conversation about how to act in such situations in the future. At the moment, Hamilton's harsh words on the radio and his demands do not match the level of results. And in this case, it doesn't matter how many championship titles he has.
Although he is now closer to Leclair in terms of pace, I think he should take a more relaxed approach."
