Pierre Gasly knocked down a rabbit during a training session in Imola

An unpleasant incident occurred with Pierre Gasly at the end of the first session of the free races of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. A rabbit ran out onto the track in front of the Frenchman's car, and the Alpine racer could not avoid a collision. In the second practice session, Pierre returned to work and showed the third time.

His new team-mate Franco Colapinto is happy with his first day with Alpine and is looking forward to qualifying with optimism.

Pierre Gasly (3rd): "Friday's training sessions were going well from the very beginning. From the first lap, I could tell that the car was handling well, and we found answers to some of the questions left after the last race, which is positive. The car reacted to my actions exactly the way I wanted it to. Now I'm trying to find the limits and refine some things, but there is definitely potential.

At the end of the first practice session, an incident that could not have been avoided – a large rabbit ran across the track before the fourteenth turn. I couldn't avoid a collision and got hit hard on the front wing. Unfortunately, that was the end of it for the rabbit, and the front wing was broken. The team did a good job before the second practice session to repair the car and minimize the consequences.

The fight on the track, as usual, is very tight. You need to keep up the speed you've gained and try to add a little more. The goal is to compete for the finals of the qualification. I'm excited and ready for the rest of the weekend at Imola."

Franco Colapinto (13th): "It's great to be back behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car during the race weekend. After the first day, I'm already more satisfied with the car. There's still a lot of work to do with the settings, but I'm starting to feel more comfortable. I still have a lot to learn and get used to, but I'm gradually improving, and by the end of the day I felt more competitive.

The car looks fast, especially Pierre's, so I'm sure we'll fight. Qualifying will be difficult due to traffic, so you need to do everything right in the first session. We will have to check the data collected today in order to find answers and become stronger on Saturday.

Overall, I'm happy with the first day and I'm looking forward to qualifying."
