Mercedes is unhappy with the results of the weekend in Imola
George Russell finished seventh in Imola, while his Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli retired from the race on his home track.…
George Russell (7th): "It turned out to be a difficult day, seventh place is not the result we were aiming for.
From the beginning of the race, I had problems with the back of the car, I couldn't get into a good rhythm. With the relatively high temperature of the track, we suffered from overheating of the rear axle, it was difficult to keep the tires in the optimal range, which affected the speed. We couldn't match the pace of the leaders and tried to minimize losses.
We will draw conclusions and prepare for Monaco. I'm looking forward to getting back on the track. We are fast in qualifying this season, which should help next week. Monaco is one of those races where a lot is decided on Saturday. I am sure we will achieve more there.
" Kimi Antonelli (exit): "I am disappointed that my first home Grand Prix ended in a descent. Nevertheless, I will cherish the memories of this weekend. The support from the fans was incredible. They cheered for me every lap, even though we had problems.
Unfortunately, we just didn't have enough pace today to compete for the top five. I got off to a good start, even though I was driving Hard, but the car's speed wasn't enough to win back positions.
At first, I was able to keep Hamilton behind. We used the VSC mode to make a pit stop, but after that we started having problems with the accelerator pedal. The engine started to lose power on the straights, the situation got worse with each lap, and eventually we had to stop the car. There is a chance to win back in Monaco, and we will draw conclusions so that we can achieve more next weekend."
