F2: Arvid Lindblad became the youngest pole holder

The fight for leadership in F2 escalates not even with every race, but actually with every session, and after the stage in Monaco, Luke Browning, a member of the Williams youth academy, who plays for the Hitech team, led the personal standings.

But his advantage is only three points, and for pole position in the youth series, the winner of qualifying gets two bonus points, so, as always, in Barcelona, everyone had something to fight for. Moreover, it is always difficult to overtake on this track.

Alex Dunn was the first to show a more or less representative time, but Leonardo Fornaroli beat him almost immediately, improving the British result by 0.150 seconds: the Invicta Racing driver completed a lap in 1:25.755. At the same time, Dunn takes the 2nd place in the personal standings, Fornaroli - the third, and the difference between them is the same three points.

But they didn't show the best time in the first half of the session, but Arvid Lindblad, a very promising Campos racer and a participant in the Red Bull youth program. The Briton with a Swedish surname and citizenship of the Kingdom of Sweden is still sixth in the championship, but he already has one victory and one podium. But there have been no poles yet, but only until today.

The drivers returned to the pit lane for fresh tires, and then all immediately drove back to the track when there were only seven minutes left before the end of the session. Since there were two dozen cars on the track, the qualifying participants, on the one hand, interfered with each other, on the other, tried to take advantage of the slipstream effect behind the opponent's car.

They all tried to improve their results, and many of them succeeded, but no one was able to reach Lindblad's time for quite a long time, but Sebastian Montoya scored literally in the last minutes of the session, rising to the first line of the protocol. However, his time was immediately exceeded by more than two tenths by the same 17-year–old Lindblad - 1:25.180! And he became the youngest pole holder in the history of the series.

However, Sebastian was not upset at all, because he repeated his best qualifying achievement of the season and cheerfully promised the Prema team to compete for high results in both races of the weekend.

So, Arvid Lindblad will start from pole position on Sunday, with Sebastian Montoya starting the main race of the Spanish stage next to him from the front row. The pink Dallara of Kusha Maini and the yellow car of Roman Stanek, the Invicta racer, will be on the second row of the starting field. The fifth and sixth results were shown by the drivers claiming leadership in the individual standings – Alex Dunn and Richard Fershor, but the first of them still has to serve a fine for overly aggressive actions during the weekend in Monaco, so he will lose as many as ten positions, but, in theory, this will affect his starting position only in tomorrow's sprint.

And in Saturday's short race, Leonardo Fornaroli, mentioned above, starts from pole position, showing the 10th time today, and there is no doubt that he will try to bring her to victory.
