Gasly remains reluctant to discuss the effects of Renault CEO's departure on F1.

"I maintain a very strong relationship with Luca."

Pierre Gasly expresses uncertainty about how the upcoming departure of Renault CEO Luca de Meo will impact the Alpine Formula 1 team. The team, which is based in Enstone and controlled by Renault, has faced instability in recent years, and de Meo's unexpected resignation adds to the challenges. Just a year ago, the 58-year-old appointed his fellow Italian, Flavio Briatore, as his personal 'executive advisor' at Alpine F1, leading to Briatore gaining even more influence after Oliver Oakes resigned. However, as he left Montreal on Sunday, Briatore claimed that de Meo's exit in July would change "nothing" for the Formula 1 team. Pierre Gasly, the team's lead driver, responded more thoughtfully to this major news. "I have a very good relationship with Luca," he stated. "He’s the one who brought me into the team. He’s an inspiring person, so my immediate feeling is sadness about his departure." Gasly is already contracted until 2026, which is when Alpine will first utilize Mercedes gearboxes and the customer F1 power unit from the German manufacturer. This shift, along with the contentious conclusion of Renault’s works F1 engine program, was initiated by de Meo. Gasly added, "As a team, even though things aren’t perfect, there are positive developments at the factory. We need to maintain this momentum for 2026 because the performance could be significantly different. We must keep that in mind." The 29-year-old, who attended the New York premiere of the new F1 film on Monday, commented on de Meo's resignation: "I need to discuss with management to understand what this means for the team."
