Formula E: Porsche will invite a 16-year-old driver to the tests
The Porsche factory team, which competes in Formula E, invited a driver who turned 16 just last Sunday, a young Elia Weiss, to the tests.
On July 12 and 13, two races of the next stage of the season will be held in Berlin, and on Monday, July 14, youth tests will take place on the track laid on the territory of the former Templhof airfield. Weiss, who now competes in Italian F4, will become the youngest driver ever to drive a Formula E car.
Last year, Elia became the German karting champion, so it was no accident that the Porsche FE Team noticed him. He is also involved in an interesting project called Motorsport Team Germany, a special program that is being implemented jointly by the motorsport divisions of the German companies Audi, BMW, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche. Its essence is that young pilots get the opportunity to demonstrate their talents by working on professional racing simulators.
On the day of his 16th birthday, Elia Weiss received an FIA international category B license, which gives him the right to participate in the Berlin Formula E tests and pilot the Porsche 99X Electric racing car.
"I am incredibly proud – I have no doubt that everyone dreams of being able to drive a Porsche! Elia commented. – I am extremely glad that I got this chance, it will be a very important step for me, and I take it very seriously.
I've already practiced driving the simulator at the team's base in Vaisakh. Everything went quite well, I got to know all the control systems, found a common language with the engineers and immediately felt comfortable driving. To drive a real Formula E car, you need physical strength and endurance, so now I train a lot, paying special attention to these aspects."
The Stuttgart-based factory team also invited Turkish racer Akhanjan Guven, who competes for Manthey Racing in the DTM and has already won two victories this year behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 R sports car.
