Carlos Sainz refused to run for president of the FIA

In early May, it became known that several key figures from the world of motorsport had proposed Carlos Sainz Sr. to run for the next FIA presidential election in order to compete with the current head of the federation, Mohammed bin Sulayem.

The Williams driver's father seriously considered the offer, but ultimately decided not to run for president of the FIA. On Wednesday, Sainz Sr. released a statement explaining his motives.

"With this message, I publicly confirm that I have made the final decision not to run for president of the FIA in this year's elections," Carlos Sainz Sr. wrote. – I have been working hard in recent months to assess the situation in the FIA in detail, as well as to understand the requirements and complexities that accompany such an important project. After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that the current circumstances are not ideal for my candidacy.

In addition, I realized that running for president would significantly hinder my preparations for the Dakar, and I don't want to let Ford and my team down. Therefore, these concerns have led me to remain realistic and abandon my intentions to take up a position in the FIA for the time being.

Despite withdrawing from the presidential race, my desire for leadership in the world of motorsport has not changed, and I still believe that the organization needs major changes, which I sincerely hope will be implemented in the coming years.

Both racing and mobility are a part of my life, so I will continue to closely monitor developments with great interest. I will continue to support motorsport and try to contribute in every meaningful way to improving mobility around the world.

Finally, I would like to sincerely thank everyone for the words of support and advice I have received in recent weeks. They have strengthened my confidence that I will be able to continue moving towards my current and future goals. I'm really grateful to everyone. Thank you."
