Luca di Montezemolo has been appointed to a position at McLaren.

Former Ferrari chief Luca di Montezemolo has taken a position at McLaren Group Holdings Limited.

The Italian specialist has joined the board of directors of McLaren Group Holdings Limited, which manages the racing division McLaren Racing and owns a minority stake in McLaren Automotive.

After the Abu Dhabi investment fund CYVN Holdings almost completely absorbed McLaren Automotive two months ago, changes began in the management of the holding, during which di Montezemolo received his position, becoming one of nine members of the board of directors. For example, among di Montezemolo’s colleagues are the former head of Jaguar Land Rover and Ford, and chairman of McLaren Group, Paul Walsh.

Luca di Montezemolo joined Ferrari in 1973 as an assistant to company founder Enzo Ferrari. In 1991, Luca was appointed president of Ferrari, and in subsequent years contributed to bringing Jean Todt, Ross Brawn, Rory Byrne, and Michael Schumacher to the Formula 1 team.

Luca di Montezemolo left Ferrari in 2014 due to disagreements with Fiat boss Sergio Marchionne.
