Piastri: I deserved more than I got.

Piastri: I deserved more than I got.

Finishing second at Silverstone, Oscar Piastri lamented the missed victory...

Question: Oscar, you competed well in the race, but a 10-second penalty cost you the win. Can you explain what happened approaching the Stowe turn behind the safety car?

Oscar Piastri: I hit the brakes. At the same moment, the safety car lights went out, which happened with a delay. And I didn’t accelerate because from that point I could set the pace. You saw the result. I did nothing different compared to the first restart. I wasn’t driving slower. It’s a shame it happened.

Question: Will you ask the stewards for clarification regarding the penalty?

Oscar Piastri: I don’t know. Honestly, I’m not sure that would be constructive. I don’t know. At this moment, it’s not so important.

Question: How much time do you think you’ll need to get over this disappointment?

Oscar Piastri: I don’t know. It hurts now. I know I deserved much more than I got. I know I raced very hard. Ultimately, when you don’t get the results you believe you deserve, it’s always painful, especially when it’s out of your control.

Question: You showed great pace, aggressively attacking Max on the eighth lap to take the lead. How much did today’s race boost your confidence?

Oscar Piastri: It did. It was a good day. The race was similar to the one here 12 months ago, but the outcome for the entire team was completely different. The whole team did an excellent job. The car was in good shape, I worked well. So it’s all the more painful when you don’t win.

Question: After serving your penalty, what did you ask the team? To switch places with your teammate?

Oscar Piastri: I knew what the answer would be before I asked. But I just wanted to see a small glimmer of hope that I might be able to regain the position. But no, I knew it wouldn’t happen.

Question: How do you evaluate the team’s reaction to your request? Do you think this moment was pivotal in the fight for the championship?

Oscar Piastri: I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. Lando didn’t do anything wrong. I don’t think it would have been fair to swap places, but I decided to ask anyway. It hardly changes anything in the championship. I believe I did a good job today. I did what was necessary. I’m using this disappointment to win a few more races later on.

Question: The stewards’ decision mentions that Max was forced to make a maneuver to avoid a collision. Do you acknowledge this?

Oscar Piastri: I don’t think he had to swerve. He managed fine before. In Canada, he had to swerve more than today. So I’m a bit confused, to say the least.
