"We will certainly see this individual back in the paddock."
As Christian Horner's two-decade journey at Red Bull concludes, a new chapter may soon begin. The 51-year-old was dismissed this week, possibly due to a decrease in his main supporter, Chalerm Yoovidhya's, stake in the energy drink company from 51 percent to 49 percent, balancing power with the Austrian side of the operation. Horner remains under contract with Red Bull while the conditions of his exit are being discussed, but he no longer has an "operational" role. However, he is expected to be free to join another Formula 1 team shortly. So far, he has been linked with Ferrari, Alpine, Aston Martin, and Cadillac.
"We will definitely see this man back in the paddock," stated former Red Bull driver Robert Doornbos to NOS. "However, I think Ferrari would significantly affect his family life, as he is a true Englishman who wouldn’t simply relocate to Maranello, regardless of Ferrari’s interest in him."
Corriere della Sera has reported that the decision-makers at Maranello are not considering Horner while they reflect on Frederic Vasseur’s future. "I can envision him in a role at Aston Martin," Doornbos offered. "Or in the process of rebuilding a team like Alpine and aiming to bring it back to the top. He is undoubtedly seeking a new challenge."
Auto Bild suggests that Horner’s longtime friend Flavio Briatore may be interested in recruiting the Briton, potentially enticing him with team shares. Auto Motor und Sport believes Cadillac would also be very keen on signing Horner to take the place of the less visible and less successful Graeme Lowdon. "With all due respect to Lowdon, he is associated with Marussia, while Horner is linked to Red Bull," noted correspondent Michael Schmidt. "Lowdon is only recognized by Formula 1 enthusiasts, while Horner’s image is known globally due to Netflix. Under his leadership, the project would garner a noticeably different perception and increased political influence."
