Mansell: Cadillac needs drivers who know how to cooperate.
Last weekend, Nigel Mansell participated in the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where he met with other Formula 1 heroes from past years, and old friends and rivals reminisced about race battles and enjoyed catching up. During the ceremonial unveiling on the balcony of the famous estate in Goodwood, seven world champions from different years, including Mansell, who won his only title in 1992, simultaneously raised their trophies. All of them held a total of 14 titles. Of course, during the weekend, they all interacted with the press in one way or another, and here is what Mansell said when asked about the new Cadillac team, set to debut in 2026, and about his views on its future lineup. "The problem is that they can't afford to invite me!" he said humorously. "Overall, it depends on the management of the new team and the goals they plan to achieve in their early years in the championship. They have a lot to learn. Not many people thoroughly understand Formula 1 business. So, they need professionals to manage this ship, understanding what they are doing; otherwise, all the money spent will be wasted, because if development goes on the wrong track, the team will not be competitive. Then it might end up as a hopeless underdog, and the project's leaders will be asking themselves whether it was worth getting involved at all. I hope they have capable people who know how to do strategic planning. Also, in the first year, they need experienced drivers who can provide adequate feedback and know what to do to achieve the best possible results. If I were the team boss, I would invite someone with qualities similar to mine, those of Alain Prost, and other champions! (laughs) I would recruit two drivers who know how to collaborate as effectively as possible, who are still in good shape but get along well with each other. For a new team, it's crucial that the drivers can work very closely together. And I believe Sergio Perez deserves another chance. He is very experienced and helped Max Verstappen win the title last year. I don't think America would mind seeing a Latin American driver in that team."
