Ralf Schumacher: Lance, you can't do that!
At the British Grand Prix, Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll finished 7th, earning points for the first time since the Miami round in May. On one hand, the result is not bad, but immediately after the finish, the Canadian responded very sharply and in an unprintable manner about the team's car.
Ralf Schumacher, a former Formula 1 driver and now an expert for the German channel Sky Deutschland, stated during the Backstage Pit Lane podcast that Lance's behavior crosses all boundaries.
"We are often criticized for being too harsh with him, and perhaps at times this is true," said Ralf. "At Silverstone, we saw that the drivers had to pilot the cars in very difficult conditions, and Lance managed that.
How good or bad he is, it’s hard to say, but his teammate, Fernando Alonso, despite being of a certain age, still drives excellently. In this regard, their entire team deserves high praise, because at Silverstone, both drivers managed to earn points.
But I must note that Lance's statement after the finish was very upsetting. Honestly, this already shows a lack of upbringing. We can imagine what kind of effect such statements have on the team.
Aston Martin mechanics work tirelessly every day to prepare two cars for the race, and then the team owner's son comes and says it's all great, but the AMR25 is not a car—it's complete trash. I have to say, such behavior is unacceptable; it’s just not right at all.
Behavior like that cannot be called good manners. I don't know what movie hero he thinks he is, but such statements diminish his own results.
At the Aston Martin base in Silverstone, the team celebrated their achievements openly, and a large tent was set up in front of the building. The team earned important points, which means the mechanics and other staff are entitled to financial bonuses. But someone who drove the race very well is saying completely awful things, and so Lance simply needs to be pulled up and advised to apologize to the team.
