"The era of the one-man show is over."
Stefano Domenicali has advised Ferrari to refrain from making hasty decisions as the pressure surrounding team principal Frederic Vasseur intensifies. While there has been speculation that Ferrari might soon part ways with Vasseur due to another title-less season, recent indications suggest that he may remain with the team, possibly while adopting a new leadership model akin to McLaren’s.
This model, which has contributed to McLaren’s resurgence at the forefront of the grid, features Andrea Stella as team principal under CEO Zak Brown. It’s a structure that F1 CEO Domenicali, who previously held the position of Ferrari boss, has commended. "A valuable lesson," Domenicali remarked to Corriere della Sera at the Spa GP. "Two years ago, McLaren was at the back of the grid in Bahrain - the budget cap has leveled the playing field. Making the right decisions in assembling a talented group is crucial.
"The era of the one-man show is over," the Italian stated. "McLaren has found strong leadership in Andrea Stella—who I admire—and Zak Brown, representing a team that reflects the spirit of modern F1: dynamic, youthful, and vibrant."
When directly asked if this insight applies to Ferrari's situation and whether Vasseur deserves more time, Domenicali refrained from giving a clear endorsement but cautioned against instability. "With adequate time and resources, results will follow," he noted. "There have been significant changes, and we must allow things to progress. It’s easy to cut down trees, but if you want shade, you need to be cautious."
"Ferrari’s top management certainly possesses the resources to make the right choices, and they will approach them with continuity in mind, ensuring they have the necessary time to put their car on the track."
One challenge the team faces is the arrival of Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion has struggled to keep pace with Charles Leclerc so far in 2025, raising questions about the wisdom behind Ferrari’s notable signing.
"An incredible story for F1," Domenicali said regarding Hamilton’s move. "From a competitive perspective, Leclerc consistently outperforms him, but Lewis has to adjust to the car. Money, titles, and star power aren't sufficient. Every day requires a fight."
"That’s the remarkable spirit of F1."
Even though Hamilton is now 40, Domenicali believes he remains driven. "He has a monumental challenge ahead: to win his eighth world championship, and he will do everything possible to achieve it," Domenicali asserted. "I don’t foresee him racing for any team other than Ferrari."
