Unfortunate Saturday for Alpine at Spa

Saturday's sprint and qualifying for the main race didn't go well for Alpine F1...

Pierre Gasly (13th): "It was a tough day. For me, the sprint ended even before it started when there was a leak on my car on the way to the starting grid. The team managed to fix it, and I completed a few laps in training mode, but in the end, it didn't matter.

Qualifying went better. I made it to the second session, drove a decent lap, but there was no opportunity to use slipstream – I was driving alone. A few tenths would have been enough to reach the final, but this year, small details often make the difference.

Let's see what tomorrow brings. We know that opponents have chosen different setups, but we will focus on ourselves and do everything to achieve the best possible result."

Franco Colapinto (17th): "An unsuccessful Saturday. Thanks to the intense work of the team, the car improved, especially in qualifying, but the gaps are so small that I couldn’t make it to the second session by just one tenth.

Gaining a tenth is easy, but that's not the point. The main problem is the lack of speed compared to the closest rivals – with such a high density of results, it becomes evident.

After starting from the back of the grid, the sprint turned into a training session, providing important information for race preparation. The forecast predicts rain on Sunday. I hope that in the changing conditions, we will be more competitive. We are ready for any scenario."
