Leo Turini: Lewis, apologies accepted
Veteran of Italian motorsport journalism Leo Turrini summarized the Belgian Grand Prix...
Perhaps Lewis Hamilton is not yet a museum exhibit, perhaps he will still fight. But more on that later.
Regarding the Belgian Grand Prix: it's a pity that modern cars and tires have deprived us of witnessing the heroic efforts of drivers on the wet track, which we enjoyed with Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher. Driver safety is always the top priority, but we can and should reconsider the rules to find a balance. Or follow the example of the Americans: if it rains, the race is postponed to the next day.
In the Ardennes, we saw another example of McLaren's dominance. In my opinion, Piastri is stronger than Norris, and he proved it again at Spa. The title race is not yet decided, but there is a sense that Verstappen has decided to step back from being a third wheel in this contest.
The old motto still remains relevant. When Leclerc is given a car capable of fighting for the title, it will already be too late. Carletto once again stepped onto the podium, and in radio conversations, he reminded me of Kimi Räikkönen with his "Leave me alone." Leclerc is the team's pillar. He needs to better manage his emotions, but thankfully, we have Charles.
Now about Hamilton. He made a great comeback during the race, but on Friday and Saturday, he performed so poorly that he decided to apologize to the team and fans. Lewis, your apologies are accepted. But we need a strong Hamilton throughout the entire weekend, not just half the race on intermediate tires. Everything will be fine if Lewis, in red, matches the phrase sung at an old festival in Sanremo by Genny Morandi, Umberto Tocci, and Enrico Ruggeri: "You can give more, dear." (Gianni Agnelli, thinking about his salary, would say: very dear). Not only with intermediate tires, and perhaps starting already from Friday.
Otherwise, excellent Albon, smart Lawson, very good Bortolotti. As for Antonelli, I do not change my opinion: he has talent, but he needs to regain confidence in himself.
Let's see what happens in Hungary in a few days.
