Helmut Marko: Piastri is still a long way from Verstappen.
Helmut Marko, Red Bull's motorsport advisor, who, after Christian Horner's dismissal, has taken on several leadership positions across various divisions of Red Bull Racing, speaks approvingly of Oscar Piastri, but believes the Australian is not yet at Max Verstappen's level.
"Piastri knows how to keep himself in check; he's more consistent and always gives his all. Maybe Norris can put in a faster lap, but overall it seems to me that Piastri has the edge," F1-Insider quotes Marko as saying. "Oscar's career has been incredibly successful, and he gets better every year.
"Last season he showed a noticeable variation in results depending on the circuit, but there's nothing like that now. However, Verstappen is Verstappen, and Oscar is still a long way off him. Still, he has potential, and he will become a truly great driver."
After 14 rounds of the season Piastri continues to lead the championship, but after Norris's three wins in the last four races the Australian's advantage has been reduced to nine points.
