The RB17 hypercar turned out to be faster than a Formula 1 car.
Testing the RB17 hypercar on a simulator, Red Bull discovered that this car is faster than the RB21 with which the team competes in Formula 1. This has been achieved thanks to efficient aerodynamics, a powerful naturally aspirated engine and a weight of less than 900 kg.
Rob Gray, Technical Director of Red Bull Advanced Technologies: "On the simulator the RB17 is faster than the Formula 1 car. At the Spa circuit it laps in 1:38 — roughly two seconds better than the pole time this season."
A total of 50 RB17s will be produced with a significant restriction for owners — driving it on public roads is prohibited. In addition, for safety reasons engineers had to limit the car's top speed.
