Ecclestone warned Verstappen against joining Ferrari.
Former head of Formula 1 management Bernie Ecclestone has always been known for his provocative remarks. This time Bernie advised Max Verstappen not to join Ferrari if he were offered the chance.
Bernie Ecclestone: "If Max moves to Ferrari, it will be the end of his career. Let's hope that doesn't happen.
Unfortunately, Ferrari chose the wrong people. They need someone who will bring specialists to the team with him. The most disappointing thing for Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari, in my view, is that they believed Lewis could do everything necessary for the team's success. They must be disappointed that they couldn't achieve what they might have.
If I were in Ferrari's place I would invite a promising driver. I would choose the Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto, who will be very good in the future, or Isack Hadjar. Bortoleto is already handling his role well, but put him in the right car and you'll see what he is capable of."
Next season Sauber, for whom Bortoleto races, will become Audi's factory team. Answering a question about Audi's prospects, Bernie said: "They will certainly improve next year. Right now they're doing well. They've had setbacks, but gradually everything will fall into place. It's nice to see a major manufacturer come into Formula 1.
It's hard to say how long it will take them to achieve success. Just look at Ferrari. They have the best equipment, but the main factor in success is people."
Speaking about the current season, Bernie Ecclestone again said he sees Oscar Piastri as the world champion: "He is doing a great job. When Oscar makes mistakes, he admits them, doesn't blame others and doesn't look for excuses. He doesn't make the same mistake twice. Piastri is the best driver after Max Verstappen."
