Oscar Piastri: We were outstanding in every situation.

Oscar Piastri won the Dutch Grand Prix, claiming his seventh victory of the season, but McLaren’s joy was overshadowed by Lando Norris’s retirement…

Oscar Piastri (1st): “Of course I'm happy! I was able to control the race when it was necessary, although it's a shame that shortly before the finish Lando retired from the race. But I could set the pace, and the race played out somewhat differently compared to last year. I'm very happy for the team and pleased with how we performed this weekend.

That said, I can't say we took any special measures — we just tried to make improvements wherever possible. At the start of the weekend it seemed like it would be difficult, but in qualifying we managed to pull everything together, and today I was also happy with my pace.

Of course, the safety car only added intensity to the on-track action, but in every situation we were on top of things, and I'm very proud of our whole team. It's not just about me; the whole team achieved this success — it wouldn't have been possible without them. It's a collective achievement.

Starting from pole is already good, and if we can keep getting results like this, that will be great, but there is still a long way to go until the end of the season. We'll keep working, trying to get the maximum out of every race.”

Lando Norris (retired): “I had the pace, I was going fast, but it's impossible to overtake on this track. The race was going well, and all I hoped for was to hold on to second place, so I was pleased that for almost the whole time I was within one and a half seconds of Oscar.

From the outside you can't see it, but we did a great job considering how big an effect the turbulence is here, and when you're driving behind another car you constantly struggle with the tyres and their temperature.

But now that doesn't matter, because I couldn't get past my teammate. Oscar had a good race and deserved to win. As for my weekend, yesterday when we were fighting for pole I was just unlucky. I was unlucky today too, but that's life, so you just have to take the hit and move on.

I'm upset, I'm disappointed, because I immediately lost so many points, even though I could have earned 18 for second place. But you have to keep fighting and do everything you can. I thought I could fight for the win in this race. If I was in contention, it usually means I was doing a good job, so you should only remember the positive moments.

I'll analyse everything and try to make up for it. I have strong rivals, so it won't be easy, but I promise to do everything I can. Right now I'm trying not to think about it too much; I just want to eat a burger and go home.”
