Russell: I was lucky to finish fourth.
Of the Mercedes drivers, only George Russell scored points at Zandvoort, finishing fourth, but he was clearly unhappy with that result, as he had expected more.
The events during the Dutch Grand Prix unfolded so that both Mercedes drivers were involved in incidents with Charles Leclerc, and Kimi Antonelli ultimately had to apologise.
George Russell (4th): "To be honest, fourth place is absolutely not good enough for me. I had a poor start, I didn't drive well, the pace left a lot to be desired, and then Charles Leclerc overtook me. Because there was contact between the cars, the floor sustained significant damage, after which I was losing roughly half a second per lap.
In that chicane hardly anyone tries to overtake, because the racing line there naturally takes you to the apex and towards the gravel trap. So the move was overly optimistic, and because of that contact, instead of fighting for the podium I had to hang on just to make it to the finish.
All in all, there's no time for celebration, and I was very lucky to finish fourth. That said, we don't really deserve more, but I should note that Isack Hadjar had a great race.
It's hard to say what I'm feeling right now, but the race was unsuccessful in many respects, and now we need to figure out why."
Kimi Antonelli (16th): "I can only regret this race result. We had good pace, the car felt great. Although I started 11th, I was able to gain a few positions and was already wondering whether there might be a chance to fight for the podium. Definitely, we could have expected a good result if not for the incident with Leclerc.
When we caught up with Charles, we saw an opportunity to try to pass him through strategy. We managed to make up some time, and when we returned to the track I found myself right behind him. Unfortunately, I couldn't avoid contact with his car in Turn 3 as he came off the banking. I apologise to Charles and to Ferrari, because if you take someone off the track it's always unpleasant.
Now it's time to prepare for Monza — it's my second home race. Right now the most important thing for me is to work on qualifying speed, because it's clear that starting from higher positions gives you a better chance of a stronger result at every Grand Prix."
